Adelaide midfielder Scott Thompson came within two touches of equaling the AFL disposals record on Saturday, collecting a mammoth haul of 51 touches (21 kicks and 30 handballs).

The record was set by former Carlton and Sydney midfielder, Greg Williams, who racked up 53 touches for Sydney against St Kilda in 1989.

Since statistics began back in 1974, only 3 players have cracked the 50 touches barrier - Greg Williams (53 v Sydney - ‘89), Scott Thompson (51 v Gold Coast - ‘11) and former Collingwood captain Tony Shaw (51 v Brisbane Bears - ’91).

Looking back at the records from the past decade, you get a sense of just how big Thompson’s effort was on the weekend.
